Assam PSC Syllabus For Inspector of Boilers With Paper Pattern

Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) recruitment of Inspector of Boilers under Labor and Employment Department, Govt of Assam is being done through a proper selection criteria. This includes a written exam for the selection of candidates. Following Exam Pattern & Syllabus of Assam PSC Inspector of Boilers is being mentioned below by which the preparations for exam can be done in better way.

Exam Pattern: For the post, a written exam is being conducted in which the objective type questions (multiple choice questions) are asked.

Total Marks: 100

Total Time: 3 Hours

The subjects included in the exam are-

Part I: Applied Engineering which will include the questions from all parts of Engineering.

Part II: Domain knowledge questions

Exam Syllabus: Part-1 is Applied Engineering and it will contain questions from-

Mathematics: Probability, Permutation & combinations, Mensuration, area & volumes, Application of logarithms, quadratic equation, trigonometry, properties of geometrical figures (triangle, circles, elliptical surface) etc.

Applied Metallurgy: Materials of construction related questions are asked

Mechanical Testing: Under this topic, there are various sections to be studied for the exam. This includes the Hardness (Impacts & properties of Rockwell Hardness, Case Hardening, Vickers hardness, Brinell Hardness), Welding process (welding types, welding metallurgy, heat distribution during welding, weld metal, thermal effect of welding on parent material, Cracking, Stresses resulted from welding, Multipass welding), Hot working process of metal (this includes rolling, forging, Tube making, drop & press forging, extrusion, Hot spinning, Roll forming), Tensile test (yield strength, elongation, modules of elasticity, stress-strain diagram), Cold working process of metal (Metal spinning, wire Drawing, shearing, Deep drawing, Impact extrusion, Rotary swaging, Drop hammer forming, Rolling, Roll forming), Principle heat treatment (Iron carbon diagram, austenite, Casting, pearlite, cementite, dearlite, Hardening, Heating method for heat Treating furnace & atmosphere control, annealing, tempering, quenching), Metallurgical Bending of metal (pressure welding, Fusion bending, bending of liquid to solid, Sintering of solid to solid)

Physics: Heat, Thermodynamics, Temperature, pressure, Newton’s law of motion, Energy Evaporation, Roiling point, equation of motions, Horse power

Chemistry: pH value, elementary theory of corrosion, properties of elements (calcium, magnesium and sodium), Thermodynamics, surface chemistry, periodic table elements study, organic compounds

Strength of materials: stress, strain, tensile, compressive, principal stresses in beams, strength & efficiency of riveted joints, welded joints & strength of metals, Elasticity, ductility, rigidity, malleability, shear & bending stresses

Fluid Mechanics: Resistance of passage against fluid flow, straight & inclined manometers, centrifugal pumps, pressure deep in straight, pressure drop & draft, equation of flow with applications

Part-2 of exam will include the questions from the domain knowledge-

Boiler Technology and Power plant questions are the important sections which are covered in the exam. The questions will be asked from the related topics-

Boilers operation: Method of heat recovery of flushing,  calculation of optimum thickness of legging, use of suitable steam traps, Steam economy Swam leakage in joints, Fuel Economy, control of air parameters, CO2 effecting factors and the exhaust temperature at Balance draft system, Boilers performance, firing system, feed water treatment, Creep apparatus, Ausilearies and Maun tinge: Air pre-heater, Electrostatic precipitator, Super heater, different type of Valves & feed pumps

Theory of steam generation and utilization: Dryness fraction, Degree of superheat, effect of compression, steel Generators, Different types of Boilers, Properties of steam, thermodynamics, effect of pressure on boiling point, legging on heat economy, location of steam traps, layout of piping systems, Exhausting of steam, critical pressure and temperature, evaporation per unit of heating surface arid per unit of fuel, heat FLUX, Steam distribution, condensation problem, optimum lagging, heat release.

Power Plants-steam turbine Plant: Principal, working, velocity, pressure, steam consumption, bleeding, determination of H.P., Steam condensers, cooling system

Theory of combustion & Heat Transmission: Effects of atomization & penetration in combustion, Diffuser, Combustion cane, Theory of Combustion of fuel drop late, Flame length, role of primary and secondary air, Heat transmission, conduction equation through composite Brick-Wall of Boilers, overall heat transfer co-efficient, heat transfer in economizer units, maximum possible recovery of waste exhaust heat in Boilers.
