Gauhati High Court Preliminary Written Exam and Main Exam for recruitment to the posts in Grade-I of Assam Judicial Service is being conducted in the state so as to select the candidates who can work best in the field. Guwahati High Court Various posts exam syllabus & pattern for both stages is provided below which can help to know what type of questions are seen in the exam paper.

Stage I of Selection is Preliminary Exam (Screening Test)

Exam Pattern: A written test (objective type) will be seen.

  • Total Time Allotted for exam: 2 Hours
  • Total Questions: 100
  • Total Marks: 100

Exam Syllabus: The details of syllabus are-

In Part-I of exam, 90 marks paper is seen which contains-

  1. The questions are asked on the General Knowledge which will include the current affairs, important events & dates, different issues based on nation and other countries.
  2. The Aptitude questions are asked to check the efficiency of the candidate which includes the numerical questions from topics such as numbers, ratios & proportions, profit & loss, discount, probability, permutation etc.
  3. Some reasoning questions are based both from verbal & non- verbal part.
  4. Questions are asked so as to test the comprehension and Expression of Law
  5. English Questions to check basic knowledge of candidate in the subject.
  6. The questions are asked based on following topics-

  • Court Fee Act
  • Indian Contract Act
  • Family Law
  • Specific Relief Act
  • Constitution of India

In Part-II of exam which is of 10 marks the questions are asked to test the proficiency In official language of Assam.

Stage II of selection is Main Exam

Exam Pattern: A written test paper of objective type is seen in the exam. There are total of 4 papers in written exam and after the exam an interview of 50 marks is conducted.

Exam Syllabus: The details of all the 4 exam papers are-

Paper 1: A 100 marks paper with 2 hours’ time duration is being seen just to test the knowledge in following fields-

  • General Knowledge
  • Aptitude
  • Reasoning
  • Comprehension & Expression of Law
  • General English (Essay Writing on legal topic)
  • Information technology

Paper 2: A 100 marks with 2 hours duration is seen in which the objective questions and problems of law are basically asked. The questions come from the topics of law-

  • Limitation Act
  • The Arbitration & Conciliation Act, I 996
  • The Indian Contract Act
  • Family Law
  • Industrial and Labor Law
  • The Land Acquisition Act
  • Law relating to Trust

Paper 3: A 100 marks paper with 2 hours duration is being seen in which the questions are asked from topics-

  • Constitution of India
  • Judgment writing
  • Legal theories on jurisprudence

Paper 4: A 50 marks paper with 1 hour duration contains the questions to test the proficiency of the candidate in official language Assam.
