Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) State Service Main exam syllabus & exam pattern will be asked in the exam as per which the candidate can prepare for the exam in better way. MPPSC State Service exam will constitute total 6 papers and the syllabus for each is described below.
Exam Pattern: The selection criteria includes 6 papers which all are objective type-
Total Time for each exam- 3 hours but for Hindi & essay 2 Hours are given.
- General Studies I (300 marks)
- General Studies II (300 marks)
- General Studies III (300 marks)
- General Studies IV (200 marks)
- General hindi (200 marks)
- Essay Writing (100 marks)
General Studies I: This paper will include questions from history of world and India (revolution of all types in different countries, Mughal empire, British rule in India, World war 1 & 2, Renaissance, Republic India, heritage in India, post- independence period in India), geography aspects (natural resources, climate, land types, food processing in various industries, supply chain management, land reforms, Tribes of MP, Agro- ecology, crops, pattern of farming, soil types, erosion, animal husbandry etc.), water management (ground water, recycling, usage, drinking water, methods of purification etc.), Disaster and its management (Natural, man- made, community planning, different case studies like Bhopal Gas tragedy, Fukushima Daiichi Japan Nuclear Disaster 2011, Indian Tsunami 2004 etc.)
General Studies II: The detailed aspects of different fields are asked in exam. For Political india- Constitution, Administrative Structure, The Preamble, Fundamental Rights & Duties, Constitutional amendments, Centre & State Legislative and electives, Judiciary, Decentralization & peoples participation in Democratic Governance, Local Self Government, 73rd and 74th amendment of Constitution, Panchayats, Lokpal, Lokayukt, Lok Nyayalaya-Judiciary, All types of commissions (Women, SC/ST/OBC), Consumer Courts, Democracy at work, Political Parties, Elections, CBOs, NGOs, Self Help Groups, media role, Social & Some Important Legislation of India, Human Rights Act 1993, The Constitution of India and Criminal Law (CrPC), Domestic Violence (Prevention) Act, The Protection of Civil Rights Act 1955, The Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989, The Right to Information Act 2005, Environment Protection Act 1986 and all other acts. The social factors such as food, health, education, Malnutrition, WHO, human resource development, Welfare programmes, Public Services in different sectors, Public Expenditure and Accounts, International Organizations (UNO, IMF, The world bank, ADB, SAARC, BRICS, WTO.
General Studies I: The questions from each topic mentioned can be asked in exam. Science (Under Chemistry Matter in our surroundings, Elements & Compounds, Mixtures, Metals and Non-metals, Carbon compounds, Structure of atom, Acids, Bases and salts etc. Under Biology- Organism, Types of organisms, Fundamental unit of life Cell, Life processes, Metabolism etc. Under Physics- Gravitation, Motion, Force, Laws of Motion, Work & energy, Light, Sound, Electricity & Magnetism). Some Reasoning questions are also asked in the exam both from verbal & non- verbal part. Patents and Intellectual Property Rights. (TRIPS & TRIMS), new technologies of all areas, sources of energy both conventional and non- conventional, Environment & Sustainable Development (causes of degradation, climate chage, laws, policies), Indian Economy related questions are asked. The basics of economy in India- how things are made and followed should be known.
General Studies IV: Human needs and motivation (Ethics and Values in Public Administration), Philosophers, Social workers contributions, summary of their life history (Mahavir, Buddha, Kabir, Tulsidas, Ravindra Nath Tagore, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Swami Vivekanand, Sri Aurobindo, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and many others), Corruption, various case studies, emotional intelligence. The questions will be asked based on the human behavior and attitude towards different things.
General hindi: This section will include the questions from Hindi Grammar and comprehension passages. The questions will be asked on basics to test the hold over language of the candidate. The comprehension passage will be given and the candidate has to answer questions asked based on it. Some translation related questions- Hindi to English or English to Hindi are asked in exam.

Essay Writing: A 1000 words essay has to be written which will be of 50 marks, then 250 words essay has to be written which will be of 30 marks. Followed by this, unseen passage will also be asked.
